Trying to value a Mickey Mouse watch
« on: November 11, 2010, 11:50:41 AM »
We've had it for almost 20 years. It is a Jean Lassale 18k gold watch with genuine Austrian crocodile leather black band. Swiss plaque, believed to have been made prior to purchase of the Jean Lassale company by Seiko. Never been worn, had a new battery installed by jeweller. Watch works perfectly.

Don't have photo of watch itself, but found scan of ad online.

I don't know the value of your watch.  I'm afraid it falls more into the category of jewelry than Disney collectible, and I really don't follow prices of fine watches at all.  I don't know that brand at all, for example, and I wouldn't be surprised if you told me they were very famous.

You will have to take a picture of the watch before you can sell it online, anyway.  This is a good time of year to sell such a fine piece, of course, since it would make an excellent gift.  And buyers will want to see any packaging or display box that you might have for it if they're thinking about it as a gift.  My general advice for such things is to check the Completed Auctions prices on eBay.  You may well not be able to find any gold Mickey watches sold, but it's an easy place to start.  You can also just look at gold watches in general to get an idea of the current market for them.  I suspect that the market for a Mickey watch of this quality will be pretty limited, so your watch probably won't be worth what a more conventional watch in the same condition might be.  And take that suggested retail price from the ad with a large grain of salt.  One thing I do know is that the list prices on jewelry are always much higher than the actual market price.  The price of gold these days might bring the value up quite a bit from a year or two ago, but still...

In any case, I'm glad you showed the watch.  It's gorgeous.  Good luck!

Thank you so much. I needed a starting place and you have provided me with that.

Best Wishes,
