The carvings you are talking about of Duff Tweeds cowboys are called the "Slaughter House Four".
He usually only did these carvings as individuals....altho, he did make two (2) with all four together: (1) he sold to a millionare from either Texas or Canada (I can't remember), the other hey "gave" to my mother & dad back in 1959, Burbank, CA, as he was a close and personal friend of the family.

The Duff Tweed carvings referred to here are not worth, nor do they sell for thousands of dollars.  The Slaughterhouse Four sells for about $200 a carving or $800 for the set.  Other Duff Tweed carvings vary in price, but do not exceed the typical $200 price.  Occasionally on Ebay there will be a bidding war which drives the price up, but (to date) I have never seen anyone pay $600 for a set of three carvings on one frame.  Those have been selling for about $75 - $100 per carving or $225-$250 total.  Individual carvings when sought after can bring higher prices, but once again, that depends on the specific carving and how scarce it is.

I have had several owners of Duff Tweed carvings reference the comments here and they have been led to believe their carvings are worth thousands of dollars.  Unfortunately, that is very misleading information today (July 2010).  I also explain to people that reading something on the internet does not make it true.  Do your research!  If you find the majority of online comments point to a high price, then that is the reality of that market.  The only place I have ever seen someone assume these carvings are worth thousands of dollars is here and I have only seen two comments total.

Hopefully, as people learn more about Duff and his work, the demand for them will increase and as a result so will the values.

www.dufftweed.blogspot.com is a blog that shares pictures, stories and experiences all related to Duff Tweed. I run that blog and created it for the love of Duff's work.  I don't quote prices via email, but will do so over the phone if you share your telephone number with me.  My comments above do give the average collector a good idea of what they should be paying or can expect when selling their Duff Tweed carvings.  My suggestion is, if you love them, keep them!  If not, I'll buy them.  Contact: DuffTweedCarvings@gmail.com.

Hello again.  Wanted to update this Duff Tweed string as I have more reported sales on the Slaughterhouse Four.  In early September the Slaughterhouse Four sold for $375 at auction in Arizona.  I know of another set of them purchased for $400, which is $100 per carving.  What I have learned about Duff Tweed carvings sales is this: if it's in demand by 2 or persons, the item sells higher, but often very few people even know a carving is being sold.  My recent purchase price for Duff Tweed carvings which I do not have in my collection has been $125-$150 per carving.  Want to learn as much as possible about Duff Tweed?  Duff did carvings of cowboys, musicians, tennis players, yachtsman, hobos, golfers, card players and more.
