I came across another interesting niche of Disneyana that I was not familiar with. ParkPennies.com calls itself the Unofficial Disneyland Pressed Penny Website and I would say they live up to the billing. I don’t know of any other site that is dedicated exclusively to the Disney elongated coin market. The site features Extensive guides of current and retired Disney elongated coins from Disneyland USA, Tokyo and Hong Kong. There is also an extensive location guide for Disneyland elongated coin machines, and a huge graphical collections overview.
Believe it or not, there a couple of rare elongated coins each worth over $3000. The most notable of these coins are the “Straw Hat Mickey” and the “Fantasmic!”. Both coins are thought to have less than 15 available in the entire world! ParkPennies has an extensive library of rare coins, with descriptions and storylines behind each one. They also discuss the history of the vending units that produce the coins and how each manufacturer got involved.
I personally found this website to be incredibly interesting. As I mentioned before, I had no idea that the elongated coin market existed, but I can see now why collectors are drawn to it. Disney elongated coins and pressed pennies are another example of the numerous niches in the Disneyana hobby, proving once again that there is something for everyone.
