Most collectors are familiar with Tomart Publications for their essential price guides, but you may not have known that they also feature a number of rare items for sale. While browsing their online collection, I came across this 1930 Charlotte Clark Mickey Mouse Doll that is currently listed for $17500. This is phenomenal piece that appears to be in very fine condition. This is one of those rare gems that most of us would be elated just to see in person…let alone own.
Charlotte Clark began producing Mickey Mouse dolls in 1930 from here home in Los Angeles. She obtained licensing permission from Disney to sell the dolls at retail outlets in Los Angeles. The demand for the dolls quickly outweighed Charlotte’s ability to produce them, and she later designed sewing patterns so that her customers could create their own. Even after mass production of the Mickey dolls took off, Charlotte continued to make dolls exclusively for Mr. Disney. Mr. Disney often gave the dolls out as gifts to members of his family and special clients. By the time Charlotte Clark retired, she had created coveted dolls for Pluto, Donald Duck, and Minnie Mouse. Her dolls have become some of the most valued treasures in the Disneyana collecting community.
