Mickey Mouse tea set made in Japan
September 26th, 2007 · 11 Comments

A reader e-mailed me with a question regarding this set of Mickey and Minney chinaware which was made in Japan.
His original question:
I am not sure of what I have here! There are four cups and two sets of four plates one set is slightly larger with the picture creamer and sugar bowl both with lids. It is still in the original box. However, the packing material has been changed. Family oral history says this set was purchased in the fall of 1929. On the bottom of the pitcher it is stamped with the following: ”Mickey Mouse COPR by Walt E Disney Made in Japan”. Any ideas of what I have here or where I can find out more information. I have been unable to find anything like this in over a month of searching!
Thank you
Tom Tesch
I answered the question in the DisneyMemorabilia forums, but it appears that Tom's pieces are from a 21-piece toy teaset which was made in Japan during the 1930s. I have 6 bone china figures of children of the world – they look like Christmas ornaments they are from Japan – do you know anything about them?

I have three pieces of the mickey minnie tea set. Would Mr Tesch be interested in those to expand his collection? Mine are silver / blue trim and his appears to be gold that may make a difference.
I got these at an antique shop, not a family heirloom.

I’ve been looking all over for what a mickey mouse potty chair is worth. It is red and made out of steel rod. The seat and arms are made of wood and a round back rest with a circle metal plate with mickey mouse on it. It also has a metal pot that goes under the seat. I can not find one anywhere. Please email me with any info.
Thanks

My mother played with a tea set like this. I have about half the pieces and am trying to complete it. Would Mr. Tesch like to sell his?

I also have an incomplete set of this, but my set appears to have the irridescent blue/purple color scheme and not the gold Tom has. This was one of four different miniature tea sets we have recently discovered in my late grandmother’s home. If anyone has any advice for me, I’d love to find out more about these sets- thanks!

Just so we set the record straight. The Mickey Mouse tea sets sold in the 30 Had a round tea pot, the 38 pot was 8 sided and in the 40 the tea pot became square. In 44 it said occupied Japan on the bottom of the Pot, then in 46 was the last sets sold. Walt Diney had over 27 different types of sets sold with colors from Gold and White, Blue and White, and Blue and Gold, some with a black line, some with rim color on the cups. Look at what you have and I can tell you the date and cost of your set. Don’t believe all you hear or see on these sets.

I have a 1929 Disney tea set w/original box…never been used or played with….I think it’s a 22 piece set w/ original pewter spoons…wondering it value and/or interest in the Disney collector community..
