Davy Crockett Collectibles

March 5th, 2007 · 56 Comments

One of the most surprising success stories in the history of Disney productions was the Davy Crockett television series.  Five one-hour adventures were produced between 1954 and 1956 and all five were immediate classics.  Even the theme song (“The Ballad of Davy Crockett”) reached the #1 in the music charts during 1954.  Davy also made it to the big screen in 1955 with an edited string of storylines from the first three television shows.

The instant popularity of the “King of the Wild Frontier” spawned an incredible amount of merchandise.  Some of the key collectibles in the Davy Crockett line are listed below.  Estimated values are for near-fine condition.

1953 “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” 45-rpm record - $50

1955 “Official Davy Crockett Indian Fighter Hat” (with box) - $250

1955 Davy Crockett Movie Poster - $200

1955 Davy Crockett Metal Lunch Box - $400

1955 Dell Davy Crockett Comic Book Issue #1 - $350

1955 “Official Davy Crockett Auto-Matic Picture Gun” (with box) - $350

1955 Walt Disney’s Official Davy Crockett Guitar” (with box) - $400

1955 “Davy Crockett at The Alamo” Playset (with box) - $1000

1956 Davy Crockett Green Back Gum Cards (complete set in box) - $800

1955 Davy Crockett Leatherette Jacket - $450

Again, this is just a small sample of the most highly coveted pieces of Davy Crockett memorabilia.  There are literally hundreds more.  This is another example of a small niche of Disneyana that you could spend your entire lifetime trying to collect.

I am just cleaning out my childhood home and found a Davey Crockett lunch box. This was the one that my older brother packed to school in the 50′s everyday. It is used with some dents and worn paint around the edges. There is not thermos but maybe I will find one as I keed digging. What is something like this worth?

  • 2 Disneyman // Mar 19, 2007 at 12:15 pm

Without seeing the item, I would estimate the value between $25 – $75 given the condition you described. Finding the Thermos would be key to ehancing the value.

Most collectors look for items in great condition, and this is where your dents and dings hurt you.

    Good luck with your item!

I have a Davy Crockett light fixture (brown and white) of Davy in a canoe and of him with his rifle.

Near mint condition. What would the approx. value be?

    Thanks.

  • 5 DisneyMan // Aug 27, 2007 at 4:53 pm

    Hi Michele,

I don’t have anything like what you’re describing in my references, so I cannot give you a firm price. I’d say that your best bet is to put it on Ebay and see what it bids up to. You can always end the auction if the price doesn’t go as high as you think it should. ;)

If you have a good photo of your lamp and maybe the date or something on it, I’d like to write a post about it and perhaps someone else can offer input as well. Use the About link at the top to e-mail photos/details if interested.

I have a complete set of the 80 Davy Crockett cards in very good condition that I put int a safety deposit box years ago. I’m not sure what the complee set may be worth but would like to now what you think the best place to list such Disney memorabilia would be. I have held onto the set for 50 + years and, aside from price, would like to see it with someone who would really appreciate it.

I have a Davy Crockett Pin. It has the words “Davy Crockett” across the top of a rifle in “gold”.
Then below is a “dangle”, sort of arrowhead shaped, with a picture of Davy Crockett (“gold” face on red background), with “gold” arrows meeting at the bottom. Does anyone know if it has any value.
I bought it as a child.

Hi, I have a Davy Crockett lamp without shade, it’s porcelain or ceramic (pottery) with davy, a bear and tree trunk, (not the juvenile version showing a young davy.) the lamp is in perfect condition, no chips or cracks, just without the original shade, and it still works. How much is it worth??

I have a Davy Crockett Tent, square, made to fit over a small card table in fair condition, which I got in probably 1955 or 1956. I’m wondering what it might be worth and if there is a collector out there they might want it.

A friend of mine has a Davy Crockett toy guitar purchased at Sears with a date of 1951. Its unopened and still in the box. I told her I would try to find a ballpark figure of what it might be worth. I don’t think she is going to give it up but would like to find out a bit about it…Thanks.

  • 29 Deb // Oct 26, 2009 at 9:17 pm

I have a Davy Crockett mug and bowl I think were cereal giveaways. They are white glass. The mug has 3 graphics. One is a head depiction of Davy Crockett in an oval, another shows him on a stump with guitar and the other shows him fighting a bear with a knife in his hand. Were these a cereal giveaway? The mug is forever etched in my mind as the “Buckley’s” mug for that’s what my mother mixed the medicine, honey and warm water in when we had colds, — not a drink for the faint-hearted and one I stared at long and hard.

We found a Davey Crockett pedal wagon complete with a canvas cover. Can not find ANYTHING like it, anywhere! Can’t be the only one made, can it? Help!

  • 31 PAUL DEVITO // Dec 5, 2009 at 9:52 am

    Dee,
Hi, no it’s not the only one but it is very rare complete. Their are 3 others that I know of. One guy out West, a guy down South and a guy just had one on Ebay for awhile. I have just the canvas part. I don’t think any of them was complete but can’t remember. Is yours complete? It’s supposed to come with the canvas cover with picture of Fess Parker, a plastic powder horn and a rifle and scabbard both marked Walt Disney. It was made by Hettrick in 1955. Were you thinking of selling or trading it?

    Best,
    PAUL D

  • 35 Harry Wallen // Mar 10, 2010 at 10:07 pm

I have a child’s leather jacket from the early to mid fifties. It has a silk looking lining, fringe on the arms and bottom and across the back and across the front, two pockets low on the front with lighter accents at the top of each, the outline of a long rifle across the back just below the collar (this is made out of a darker brown piece of leather and is about ten inches long, the zipper works well and has ‘MURLEN’ STAMPED INTO THE COPPER TAB, the only tag I see is inside the neck and it has ‘Davey Crockett’ on it in a hand written conbination of printing and cursive styles, it is about a size four (my guess). My wife was given it by her father when she was very young around 1957. Any ideas on the origin and value of the jacket. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Harry R. Wallen

I have a piece of movie memorabilia, for which I can’t determine a price or find comparables. This is a large leather hanging, which was used in the movie theatres, to advertise the movie “Davy Crockett.” On the face of the piece is a likeness of Fess Parker. Has anyone see another item like this?

  • 44 Randy Indish // Dec 27, 2010 at 7:00 am

I have a Davy Crocket Ceramic Bowl made by Elenore Welborn Art Productions in Monterey California. The bowl had Disneyland on one side and Frontierland on the other with a picture of Davy riding a horse inside With Walt Disney’s Davy Crocket and “King of the Wild Frontier” under it. I’ve had this my whole life and was wondering as to it’s value. I know that Welborn made souveniers for Disneyland only and just for a couple of years before Walt send everything to Japan.

  • 45 Randy Indish // Dec 27, 2010 at 7:04 am

This bowl also has a gold ring around the lip of the bowl and is in perfect shape/no chips or cracks no damaged graphics.
