Unique Collectible? Retired Disney Monorail Car Listed on eBay

April 3rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

You’re unlikely to find a more unique eBay Disneyana auction as this one.  Bidding recently ended on a retired monorail train car used to carry tour passengers throughout Disney World from 1971 to 1999.

According to the auction description, this Red Mark IV front cabin unit has logged over a million miles.  The car is 40 feet long and weighs over 21,000 pounds.  It was purchased directly from Disney World and currently rests on a flatbed trailer.  It is unknown how much was originally paid for this unique piece of Disneyana, but the closing bid of $57,100 did not meet the reserve.

You can view the completed auction at the link below, but this link could be pulled by eBay at anytime since the auction is over.  One thing that stands out about this listing is the seller’s poor spelling and grammar.  You would think an item with a reserve above $50,000 would call for more attention to detail in the posting.  I also found the listed “possible uses” very entertaining.  My favorite has to be…“Could be set up as transpertation from front yard to back yard.”

Umm…how big is your yard dude?

Update on National NFFC Convention

April 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

The NFFC has just released some details for their annual California Convention to be held on July 11th through July 16th at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Garden Grove, California.  In case you are unfamiliar, the NFFC (National Fantasy Fan Club) is The Club for Disneyana Enthusiasts, committed to preserving and sharing the rich legacy of Walt Disney.

Here is a quick excerpt from the news release...

"Registration will open at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11th.  This year, instead of the traditional "goodie bag" that comes with two of the packages offered, we are introducing a new and exciting Convention gift that is being designed for us by Arribas Brothers.  You are going to enjoy this new NFFC keepsake.

We have confirmed the following speakers:  (Please keep in mind that speaking dates are subject to change, but these speakers have been confirmed to attend.)

Neal Gabler, author of the new biography Walt Disney: Triumph of the American Imagination.  Neal will also be at the Show and Sale on Sunday to autograph his book.  Neal is currently scheduled to speak on Saturday, July 14th.

Charles Ridgway, author of Spinning Disney's World.  Charlie was a public relations man for Disney and worked directly with Walt. In 1969, he moved to Florida to organize pre-opening publicity for Walt Disney World and went on to become the director of the PR department there in 1982.  Charlie – an NFFC Disney Legend -- will have some wonderful stories and memories to share, and he will be signing copies of his book. Charlie is a confirmed speaker, but the date and time have not been confirmed."

Song of the South DVD

March 28th, 2007 · No Comments

While no one is confirming anything, but there are widespread rumors that Song of South could finally be making its long awaited premiere on DVD.

Disney has withheld releasing the popular 1946 movie because of concerns for public backlash. The film prominently displays instances of slavery, including one of the most identifiable characters, Uncle Remus.
